Stresses of Running a Business

There is a small bookstore or coffee shop that lurks in everyone's dreams-a small business to call your own, one where you work when you want, meet interesting people, and live off the profits in an easy life. However, before one starts fantasizing too much about owning a business there are several things you should keep in mind about the level of work, dedication, and time you will need not only to run a business, but to run a successful one.

Here are six things to keep in mind when considering going into business for yourself:

· Self-Discipline-it can often times be hard to keep deadlines when there is no one there to tell you to get back on track or keep you from taking breaks. Deadlines are key to running a successful business. Clients need to know that they can depend on you and the you give them the services that you promise.

· Working all day-your work schedule has to become your life. Whether you are working all day, seven days a week still does not guarantee you success. This can be frustrating for anyone, but spending the hours of your life constantly on your project is essential.

· Dealing with stressful environments-Business meetings, pitching your ideas, uncertain circumstances, these can all lead to a lot of stress. It is important to keep a cool head, prepare as well as you can, and stay healthy to keep your stress levels down.

· Uncertain job prospects-at the beginning of your business, it is likely that you will have to take some financial risks. You may need to take some jobs that are risky and have uncertain pay. As stressful as this can be, it is just the reality of the beast.

· High volume of travel-to make your business sell you need a lot of face time, and this requires that you travel to the costumer often times. Travel is very stressful on the body, especially if it is constant. Long commutes to work and lots of air travel are important for your business, so play accordingly.

Running a business can be a stressful affair, but it can as result in a great success, which can pay off your investment of time in energy spent.
